Democracy Party

The latest exhibition at the ever-stimulating Bristol gallery, down on the harbourside, bears the self-effacing title ‘the art of  Democracy’. And a finelooking show it is too: a group exhibition featuring works by 17 painters, installers and snappers, poets,  sculptors and graffers from Bristol and far beyond, all chosen for their expressive potential and ability to tell us something about, y’know, the human condition. the roster includes artist/poet lawrence hoo, graffiti artists Inkie and FlX, sculptor Ben Dearnley (pictured: collaboration with FlX. Painting by the latter in the background) and painters alison Black and Jimmy
Galvin (who also co-curates). From further afield, meanwhile, you’ll find works from sohan Jakhar, who paints vibrant scenes of indian city life, while Seyed Edalatpour’s figurative sculptures are inspired by the pure forms and geometry of islamic architecture.

The exhibition aims to show “art’s democratic ability to convey powerful ideas and individual emotions… whilst simultaneously interrogating stereotypes and challenging our understandings of cultural identity, race, sexuality and politics”. an accompanying series of free public talks, live painting events and documentary films is also taking place at the gallery (email  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
